easy way to turn photo into fall with this easy autumn editing trick!

How To Create An Autumn Edit in Photoshop

With fall right around the corner I know you must be thinking about sweaters and the leaves changing color and pumpkin spice EVERYTHING, am I right? You want that look in your photos too. Trouble is, sometimes it is just not as autumn-y (is that even a word?) as you’d like it to be OR if you’re like me, you live in a place where the green leaves don’t really change. That’s where Photoshop comes into play. There are ways that you can create an autumn edit in your photos. Here’s how!

I’ll show you one super easy way you can use Photoshop to turn the green leaves in your photo into a  cool crisp autumn scene. Plus, if you watch the video below, I’ll also show you my favorite Fall Photoshop action pack, in action!

To Create Your Own Fall Edit

First, open the photo you want to transform into Autumn in Photoshop (it will probably have lots of green leaves!)

Next, using the color dropper, sample a few point of the green leaves. You’ll most likely find that the color is not really solid green, but more a green yellow.

Then, create a selective color adjustment layer and choose the color yellow from the drop down menu.

Now this is where it can get a little tricky, you’ll need to understand complementing colors and how colors mix. (Need a refresher, you can read How to Get Your Colors To POP! here)

Since we have yellow pulled down we need to mix it will a color that will give us that beautiful orange fall look. So, what mixes with yellow to give us orange?…RED! But if you look at your sliders below, red is not a choice. That’s because the opposite of red is cyan. You will need to take the cyan slider and pull it to the left to mix red with that yellow and create more of an orange look. (Didja get that? I told you it was a little tricky. You can always watch me in action in the video below to see first hand)

Finally, you can brush off with a black brush anywhere you don’t want the color to show through! And there you have it, a beautiful fall edit. Still unsure? Just watch the short tutorial above to see just how I do it!

Now if you’re looking for more variety and an easier workflow for your autumn photo edits, The Cozy Clicks Autumn Inspired Pack has 14 different fall actions + a play all mixer for super easy editing. Plus, most of these actions were created to focus just on the background, leaving the skins tones, and subject as is. ) Check out the Autumn Inspired Photoshop Actions by Cozy Clicks.
