Let’s Keep It Simple: Beautiful Photos, No Hike Needed!
When you’re planning your family photo session, the last thing you want to worry about is a long walk—especially if you’re bringing little ones, grandparents, or just want to keep things easy and relaxed.
As a Phoenix family photographer who’s worked with hundreds of families (and as a mom of four myself!), I know how helpful it is to find scenic photo locations that don’t require a hike or lots of walking.
If you’re looking for spots that offer great backgrounds without a workout, here are some of my top go-to favorites! 💜
Your Own Backyard (or front yard!)
Yes, really! Your own home or backyard can be one of the best spots for your family photo session.

- It’s comfortable and familiar for your kids
- You don’t have to travel—zero walking involved
- I can help scout the best light and angles right where you are
✨ No need to pack the car or rush around. If you have a shaded area, trees, or even a cute patio—your home might be the perfect photo location!

Pyramid Trailhead (Ahwatukee)
📍 Just off 19th Ave & Chandler Blvd, Phoenix
This one is a hidden gem! While it does lead to longer hikes, if we shoot right at the base of the trailhead, you’ll get beautiful desert views without needing to hike at all.

✅ Pros:
- Dramatic mountain and desert backdrop
- Soft lighting and space for large families
- Quick, easy access from parking
⚠️ Things to Know:
- No restrooms
- Works best right around golden hour
Pima Canyon Trailhead (Ahwatukee / South Mountain Area)
📍 9904 S 48th St, Phoenix, AZ
Another South Mountain favorite—while the trail itself can be long, the base is flat and picturesque, making it a great no-hike option.

✅ Pros:
- Easy parking and wide open desert space
- Gorgeous views of the foothills and cactus
- Family-friendly without the commitment of a full hike
⚠️ Things to Know:
- With mild to moderate hiking there are many more variations for backdrops in this location!
Community Parks or HOA Green Spaces
Your neighborhood park might be a hidden treasure! Many communities have small greenbelts, tree-lined paths, or scenic spots that are perfect for family photos.

✅ Pros:
- Super convenient—minimal driving and walking
- Kids are familiar and more comfortable in their own space
- I can work with just about any background to make it beautiful!
⚠️ Things to Know:
- Timing is everything—avoid mid-day sun
- We’ll want to pick a quiet time to avoid foot traffic
💡 If you’re unsure whether your local park would work, I’m happy to take a look and offer suggestions!
