Sisters Session in Ahwatukee
These girls often grace themselves on my blog as they are two of my most favorite muses…and for good reason:) A few times a year I take photos of them together having fun and enjoying each others company. A few months earlier we shot in the open desert in Ahwatukee were they got silly with one other ( check out those fun desert photos here). This time we stayed in the desert but focused not so much on the mountains and cactus of the open desert scenery, but the dry, arid landscape and neutral colors.

Styling
I choose this location because of the fact that it is very neutral and uncolorful. I wanted their outfits to really pop out of the picture because of the bright color and uniqueness of detail. I discuss how to really make colors pop in photos in an article on Digital Photography School. ( Read more here) These sweaters and hats are handmade, one of a kind attire made for them by grandma. Color, texture and detail in clothing can make for great portraits especially when the background is neutral.
Tips for a Fun Children’s Session
Kids can be hard to photograph, especially if they are your own. To have a successful photo session where younger kids are involved there are a few things you can do to make it enjoyable for everyone. First, give them some ownership. Explore the area your at together and have them be involved in choosing spots that look interesting to them to have their photo taken. Next, encourage them to relax and be themselves. All portraits don’t have to be big smiles and looking directly and the camera. Finally, just have fun!
I love taking portraits of children! Their individuality and personalities on camera is priceless. Contact me to set up a time for your child’s next portait session. Toegther we can choose a great location and discuss styling. Email me today! emily@cozyclicks.com
