Ahwatukee, AZ Extended Family Photography

Phoenix Area Family Photographer

If you follow my blog, you’ve probably noticed that it has been awhile since I’ve last posted a featured session, photography tutorial or photo related post.  If you are new to my blog or have just stumbled across my site, you are in for a treat! I have been busy, busy, busy these past few months with many family, child and senior portrait sessions and I have so much new work to feature and share with you.  While I am still hard at work finishing up new galleries, I am getting around to posting some fantastic featured sessions.  Be on the lookout for new tutorials after the first of the year too!  (See some of my past ones here or at my YouTube channel)

The Location: Ahwatukee

As one of my top spots for family photo shoots, this family drove a distance to have their extended family photos taken with the famous South Mountain in the background and the traditional Saguaro cactus that are scattered all over the Phoenix deserts.  Ahwatukee is a perfect setting to get that traditional desert look in your family photos.  Sunset is the ideal time for this location!

The Weather: Rainy

I often get asked the question, “What happens if it rains?, ” when families are scheduling their session.  Being in Phoenix, we are lucky that that doesn’t happen often.  When it does though, there is still a strong possibility that your shoot can still happen.  A few sprinkles won;t harm your session at all and can actually bring a pretty cool look to the images.  On this date, it was raining off and on all day.  It was even sprinkling as we drove out to our location.  Miraculously it stopped just as our session began and started to downpour again an hour later.  The result of this weather were some awesome sunsets and some pretty colorful stormy skies.  You can read more about how weather can affect your photo shoot in an article I write for CGPro prints here.
