Luckily, there are some incredible spots in and around Phoenix that offer just that! Here are a few of my favorite non-desert locations for your next photo session.
Downtown Phoenix
Downtown Phoenix is perfect for those who want a mix of modern city vibes and historic charm. The urban streets, murals, and sleek architecture provide the perfect backdrop for an edgy, fashion-forward session. You can find stunning textured walls, cool alleyways, and vibrant pops of color that make for fun and dynamic portraits. Plus, the Roosevelt Row Arts District is filled with ever-changing street art that adds a unique touch to any shoot. If you love a mix of old and new, this is a fantastic choice!

Mesa Community College Rose Garden
Want a lush, romantic setting? The Rose Garden at Mesa Community College is a hidden gem. Located about 20 minutes from downtown Phoenix, this gorgeous spot features over 9,000 rose bushes, offering a dreamy and colorful backdrop. Whether you’re planning an engagement session, senior portraits, or family photos, the soft pastels and vibrant blooms will add a touch of elegance to your images. Keep in mind that the best time to visit is during spring or fall when the roses are in full bloom!

Tempe Center for the Arts
For a sleek and modern backdrop, the Tempe Center for the Arts is a fantastic choice. Located just 15 minutes from Phoenix, this architectural gem sits along the edge of Tempe Town Lake, offering stunning waterfront views, clean geometric lines, and unique textures that elevate any photo session. Bonus: it’s right next to the Arizona Science Center, so you can make a fun day of it after your session!

Gilbert Riparian Preserve
If you’re looking for a peaceful, nature-filled setting, the Gilbert Riparian Preserve is a fantastic choice. Located about 30 minutes from Phoenix, this beautiful spot features lush greenery, reflective water, and wooden boardwalks that create a stunning natural environment. It’s an especially great choice for family and maternity sessions, as kids love exploring the trails while we capture candid moments. Plus, if you’re lucky, you might even spot some of the incredible wildlife that calls this preserve home!
