10+ years, spring wildflowers, and golden hour perfection

One of the greatest joys of being a Phoenix family photographer is getting to grow alongside the families I photograph. And this one? Well, they’ve had a special place in front of my lens for over 10 years! Watching their kids grow, change, and bloom each year — just like the wildflowers that surrounded us this spring — is something I never take for granted. 💛
This session was one of those soft, golden evenings where everything just clicked (literally and figuratively 😉). It took place at one of my favorite low-key spots in Ahwatukee — the Desert Foothills Park Wildlife Trail — during that short, magical window when the yellow spring flowers are in full bloom.
🌼 Spring at Desert Foothills Wildlife Trail = Pure Magic
If you’re searching for a desert location that’s not overcrowded, Desert Foothills Park’s wildlife trail is a hidden gem. Especially in the springtime!
Here’s why this spot is such a favorite:
- Bursting yellow wildflowers in late March to early April
- Soft, rolling desert trails with mountain views
- Plenty of room to spread out and explore
- Almost always peaceful and quiet
- Gorgeous golden light as the sun sets behind the foothills

This time of year, the trail glows with color and warmth, making it the perfect setting for timeless family portraits.
💛 Over a Decade of Memories
I’ve had the honor of photographing this sweet family for more than ten years now, and every session is just a little more special than the last.
They know how to show up relaxed, go with the flow, and let their personalities shine. That comfort and connection really comes through in their photos — and it’s one of the reasons I always encourage families to come back year after year. It’s not just about photos. It’s about building a visual story of your family’s life.

✨ Golden Hour Is the Best Hour Here
We timed this session at golden hour, and wow — this location knows how to show off at sunset. The warm light dances across the trail and wildflowers, adding a soft glow that makes every photo feel dreamy.
Golden hour also:
- Keeps the session cooler and more comfortable
- Adds natural softness to skin tones
- Helps avoid harsh shadows from midday sun
- Creates those warm, glowy, “you belong in a magazine” vibes 😉

One of my favorite things about the Desert Foothills Wildlife Trail is that it’s rarely crowded — even during busy photo seasons.
You won’t have to dodge crowds or wait your turn for the “good spot.” Instead, you’ll find:
- A calm, natural desert vibe
- Easy walking paths (great for young kids or grandparents)
- Cactus, wildflowers, and mountain views all in one place
- A quiet atmosphere that helps everyone feel more at ease

That relaxed energy helps me capture the real smiles, the snuggles, the inside jokes — all the things that make your family your family.
