First-time clients, summer smiles, and a whole lot of fun!
This session was one of those magical evenings where everything just worked. Beautiful golden light, the sweetest toddler, a relaxed and joyful family vibe — and a location that doesn’t get enough love in the summer: the Gilbert Riparian Preserve!
This first-time family of four came ready to laugh, play, and explore, and we had so much fun together capturing their connection. I left this session with so many great shots — it was hard to narrow them down!
📍 Why the Gilbert Riparian Preserve Is a Hidden Summer Gem
You’ve probably heard of the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch as a go-to spot in the fall and spring, but here’s a little secret: summer sessions here are so much more relaxed! ☀️
- ✨ Way fewer people (you might even have the place to yourself!)
- ✨ Easier parking and no waiting for the “good spots”
- ✨ Golden light that looks extra dreamy over the water
- ✨ Shady spots that offer a little relief from the heat

Sure, it’s warm — but when we schedule your session during golden hour, it cools off just enough to make it totally manageable. And let’s be real, for some of us, you’re already used to the heat if you live here 😉
🧡 First-Time Clients, But It Felt Like Old Friends
It’s always exciting working with new families — especially when they show up ready to have fun like this crew did. Their little toddler was full of energy and curiosity (as toddlers always are!), and big sis was just the right mix of sweet and silly.
What I loved most about this session was how present everyone was. No pressure for perfect smiles. Just real laughs, cuddles, and playful moments. Those are the images that mean the most in the long run, and this family made it so easy to capture them.

👣 The Preserve Is Perfect for Families with Young Kids
With toddlers in tow, the last thing you want is a location that requires hiking or navigating rocky terrain. The Gilbert Riparian Preserve is ideal for families with littles because:
- Most paths are wide and stroller-friendly
- There are bridges, water views, ducks, and fun things to explore
- Plenty of spots to stop and sit if you need a break
- Lots of variety in just a short walk — desert, water, greenery, and open sky
We didn’t have to wander far to find a mix of beautiful backdrops and great light. This family got a gallery full of images that looked like we visited five different spots — all in one location!

Here’s why:
- 📆 More flexibility in scheduling
- 📸 Easier access to popular spots
- 🌅 Beautiful, soft light later in the day
- ❄️ Cooler temps right at sunset
- 🎉 You’ll have your photos way before the busy fall holiday rush
Plus, when kids are out of school, it’s easier to coordinate outfits, naps, and dinner without the school-night stress.
