Phoenix Area Family Photographer
This family photo session close to Phoenix, AZ was a desert dream! A beautiful family and sunset set the stage for this photo shoot. Keep reading for more details!
The Location: Scottsdale
For this family photo session, this family of 6 headed from the East Coast to Scottsdale, AZ. Trying to get a different look from the East Coast landscape, we shot at a very deserty location. Gateway Trail head in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve is a perfect desert location for family photos. There are mountains, cactus, desert paths and beautiful sunsets and sunrises. This is a great photo location if you are looking to capture the feeling of Arizona. This location is best right at sunrise or close to sunset. (To see more great Arizona locations look here)
Wardrobe
This family had it down with their wardrobe choice! Notice how they picked two colors (blue and orange) and complemented them throughout everyone’s clothing. There are some solids and some patterns. By selecting clothing that is not all the same solid shade it helps pop every individual out in the portrait. This is a great example of what to wear for family portraits.
Time of Day
As with most of my sessions, this one began about 45 minutes prior to sunset. This ensures great light that doesn’t overpower the people with heavy shadows. It also makes for beautifully lit sunsets. Sunrise sessions are also ideal for family portraits- if you are an early riser! While there are some areas that do work well for mid days session, this location is NOT one of them. This location is best at sunrise or very close to sunset.
