“Student Spotlight”: Meet Photographer Ami Grieve
Ami Grieve is one of the most unique and interesting photography students I have worked with. She recently completed my Shoot it Sensational Course while traveling the WORLD! <—Yup, you read that right! Ami practiced her skills on some of the most unique subjects out there and now she is sharing her work with you! Come read more about her fascinating journey and learn her advice to YOU to help you become a better photographer!
I have always been interested in photography but never really thought of taking it further than creative photos with my phone until I started traveling.
My inspiration is most definitely my grandfather. He was a professional photographer and he would be the first one to critique and comment on my pictures. He was the one who continued to push me in that direction and the biggest push was giving me one of his set ups right before I left to travel the world with my boyfriend.
I have fallen in love with photographing animals. I used to take my camera to the local dog park and practice but recently I was traveling Africa and went on a safari in the Serengeti and feel like I found my calling. There is something about patiently waiting in anticipation of searching out wildlife and the excitement of finding it. Its such a huge adrenaline rush being around things so unpredictable and beautiful that when I do get that perfect shot, the sense of accomplishment is more than I can explain.
Now that I have finished the course (
Shoot It Sensational), I see myself getting into more portrait style photography. Maybe getting home and taking photos for friends or family. I would love to go around to shelters or rescues and take photos of animals to help them get adopted. My dream goal is to be a wildlife photographer one day and I hope I can accomplish that in the next 5 years.
Take Emily’s course! I am so grateful that I finally took that step after struggling to learn it on my own for 7 months. There were so many little things that I just didn’t have a clue about that made getting my shots crisper and clearer so much easier.
I have definitely found my inspiration through travel. I work far away from home 3-4 weeks at a time so when I get out of that consuming work bubble I get so much inspiration in mother nature, people and wildlife.
Learn your camera before you think you need to buy newer/better equipment. I thought I needed more expensive gear, turns out I just didn’t understand my camera.
I think I am still searching for my style, which is okay, I am just beginning my photography journey. I do love catching a moment rather than setting up a picture which is probably why I love photographing animals so much.
