Family Fun in Ahwatukee

I had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful family years ago when they were only a family of three.  We were in Ahwatukee for that session and opted to stay here for this one as well.  I’m glad we did because it is one of my top 5 favorite places to shoot!

The Location: Ahwatukee Mountains

OK, so I don’t think they are actually called the Ahwatukee Mountains, but if you’ve driven through Ahwatukee recently there are stunning mountain ranges everywhere you look.   They make for gorgeous backdrops for family photos.  For this family session, we choose two different mountain locations in the area and really captured some true to Arizona landscapes.

The Weather

If you hadn’t already guessed by  reading the title or scrolling through some of the photos, the evening was seeming less than ideal for a family session with two small kids.  the rain and dust storms in Phoenix can really sneak up on you, and while they typically don’t last a long time, the dust can be pretty dense and the wind can be strong enough to take down trees.  This night the dust was blowing in just minutes before the session was to take place.  I was thinking that we may have to reschedule if the winds didn’t die down.  Together, we decided to go for it whatever the weather did and I sure am glad we did!  The stormy night, although there were a few sprinkles, gave us a beautiful rainbow!  Curious about how the weather can effect a photography session?  Check out the article I wrote for CGPro Prints here.
