Five Best Beginner DSLR Cameras
Let’s chat a bit about gear. You might be in the market for a new camera and are trying to figure out which one is best for you. It’s fun shopping, but also a big decision. I’ve compiled a short sweet list based on my personal choices plus those of my students and peers. Here are my five picks for the best beginner DSLR cameras. (In no particular order, well, actually I am a Canon girl…so I did put my faves first;) )
Canon Rebel EOS T7i
This is the newest model of the rebel series (as of summer 2018). I’ve owned several models from this series and and confidently say, no complaints. While this model is a little pricier than some of the others, you will get the most up to date model

Canon Rebel EOS T5i
If you’re looking to spend a little less and don’t necessarily want the newest model, this one is great. Once again, being a Canon girl, it is awesome for beginners.
Nikon D3500
An alternative to the previous Canon models is the Nikon D3500. Loved by many beginner photographers, this one is a great value and not too expensive.
Nikon D5600
A step up from Nikon’s 3400, the D5600 is a great choice by many beginner photographers. This model is similar to Canons T7i and close in price as well
Sony Alpha a68 DSLR Camera
Finally to round out the list is a completely different option. An alternative to both Canon and Nikon, this model Sony is a mid priced beginner camera made for new photographers.
So there you have it! A sweet and simple list of some of the best DSLR cameras out there for beginners. The choice is now up to you. But, regardless of which one you choose to shoot with, be creative and have fun with it!
