I love the photo challenges over at the www.iheartfaces.com blog! I haven”t entered one in awhile because I was so busy with the winter and spring family sessions, but thought I would challenge myself this month with their theme, pastel. I took the camera out to the backyard along with one of my four favorite muses to see if I could get a shot to enter. Now, if you have ever taken a look at my work you probably know that pastel does not describe the photos I typically take. My work is highly characterized by bright bold colors and I tend to pull out as much color as I can in a photograph. For that reason, this was truly a “challenge” for me.
I had envisioned this shot in my mind and planned on playing off the soft tones of her pink suit and hat as well as the soft blue tones I saw in the background. I tried to process in the extreme opposite direction I usually take so that the pastel hues came through to give the photo a soft summery feel. This was tough for me, as I really wanted to make it bold! But I took on the challenge and actually really like the end result.Like I had mentioned, this was hard for me not to make these colors bold and bright, so of course, I had to take some of my other shots from this day and process them in my signature style. Check me out on Instagram (@cozyclicks) to see some other shots of this beautiful gal in her cool pink shades edited in a different, colorful way.
