The Friday Five is a short and sweet blog post that comes out each Friday with tips and tricks to help YOU with your portrait photography. (Take a peek through some of the past week’s Friday Five’s here)
Because I’ve been hearing from a lot of you lately about just feeling a bit down about your progress as a photographer, I thought I’d talk about it in this week’s Friday five. So here you have it, 5 things YOU can do to Stop comparing yourself to other photographers
Â
Ok, so I know you’ve done this before. Scrolling through your Fb or Ig Feed you come across a photo that make you stop and stare. It’s beautiful…perfect almost. The lighting is on point, the editing is dreamy. you admire it for a second, but then another feeling creeps over you.and it’s not a good one.
Â
COMPARISON
Â
We’ve all done it at some point and we all still will. You might think that you are not good enough or you will never get to the level that __________(fill in the blank with your fave photographer) is at.Â
Â
The trick is to realize that your doing it and consciously try to alter that behavior.’The longer you keep comparing yourself to others, the more you are going to hold yourself back. And I get it, it?s hard (really hard sometimes). So I challenge you to start really thinking about these 5 statements and applying them to the way you think about yourself and your work.
Â
Â
1.Learn to admire someone else’s work WITHOUT questioning your own
Admire their work. Smile and move forward.
2.Only compare yourself to you and the photographer you used to be
If you ever get stuck feeling bad, pull out your work for a year ago, two years ago, 5 years ago and then smile at your progress.
3.Realize that we are all on different parts of our journey
Don?t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle or end.
4.Understand that there is enough room in this world for all of us to succeed. ?
There is no limit to the amount of success that is out there. It’s a limitation our own minds create.
5.Keep moving forward
If you don’t then you’re just stopped and you’ll never see progress.
Â
Â
Â
You will grow. You will continue to succeed. Focus only on you and you will win every time.
