Locations for Extended Family Photo Sessions
This fun extended family photo shoot took place at DC Ranch Marketplace in Scottsdale, Arizona. It’s important when choosing a location for a large group of people that you have plenty of space, great lighting condition and aren’t going to be bombarded by lots of other people that could potentially get in your shots!
I have lots of great locations for photos and we can chat about them together to find the perfect location for you session! Email me at emily@cozyclicks.com

Tips for a Smooth Extended Family Session
Extended family photoshoots can be a lot of fun, but it’s important to make sure everyone feels comfortable and engaged throughout the session. Here are some tips to help ensure everything goes smoothly:
1. Coordinate Outfits for a Polished Look
While you don’t have to be matchy-matchy, coordinating outfits will help create a cohesive look. I recommend selecting a color palette that complements your location and fits well with the Arizona desert landscape. Soft neutrals, muted tones, and subtle patterns are a great choice for family photos, but feel free to let each family member’s personality shine through with their outfit choices.
2. Keep the Kids Engaged and Happy
A photoshoot with multiple children can be challenging, but it’s important to keep them engaged to capture those authentic moments. I’m a parent myself (with 4 kids!) and have a wealth of experience working with young ones. We’ll take breaks when needed, allow for some playful interactions, and keep the session lighthearted.
3. Plan for Different Groupings
With extended family, it’s important to plan for various groupings—such as individual family units, grandparents with grandkids, siblings together, and the entire extended family. This allows for a variety of photos that truly showcase the bond between everyone.
4. Take Advantage of Candid Moments
While traditional posed shots are important, candid moments are often the most treasured. Whether it’s a grandparent sharing a laugh with a grandchild or cousins playing together, these moments tell the true story of your family’s connection.
